Ceramic Polishing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi And Al Ain - What Are the Effects of Ceramic Polishing on Surface Roughness and Color Change?

 

Several studies have been conducted to examine the effects of Ceramic Polishing techniques on the surface roughness of ceramics. Surface roughness is considered to be a surface texture which may be beneficial in mechanical cleaning processes, but it may also enhance initial adherence of bacteria to the surface. In addition, it may reduce the efficiency of mastication.

 

 Change values were found after finishing

This study assessed the effect of Ceramic Polishing techniques on the surface roughness and color change of four different CAD/CAM ceramic materials. A total of 90 specimens were used. The surface was polished using a diamond polishing system for porcelain. The polished specimens were compared to the surface roughness after clinically simulated resin clean-up. The staining resistance was also assessed using a variety of solutions. A paired t-test was used to compare the change in color of the specimens after polishing. Results show that color change was not statistically significant for all materials. The highest color change values were found after finishing.



After finishing, the surface was glazed. The glazed group produced Ra values of 0.427 and 0.642. The glazed group was compared to the resin-ceramic group. In the resin-ceramic group, the color change value was not statistically significant. The resin-ceramic material had higher staining resistance than the glazed group.

 

Polished with one of four polishing systems

Specimens were cut from the CAD/CAM ceramic blocks using a low speed diamond saw. Specimens were then polished with one of four polishing systems. The polished specimens were then placed on stubs. The most representative specimens from each subgroup were then coated with a conductive layer. The conductive layer was made of Balzers Union FL-9496, Liechtenstein. Electron Photomicrographs were taken at 1000x magnification.

The specimens were then immersed in various solutions including distilled water, tea, fermented black carrot juice, and turkish coffee. Each solution was used for a week. After this, the stained surfaces were re-glazed and then stored for 24 hours. A total of 52 metallic samples were then covered with glazed feldspathic porcelain. The surface roughness of these samples was also measured by SEM. The results showed that the rougher the surface, the more grooves and pits it has. The surface roughness of glazed feldspathic porcelain was higher than the resin-Ceramic Polishing.

 

Increases restorative options

A total of 20 articles were reviewed to assess the effects of polishing techniques on the surface roughness of ceramics. The most effective polishing technique was found to be a polishing speed of 10,000-12,000 RPM. However, this speed is variable depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. In addition, the lifetime of the polisher is also reduced when polishing at high RPM. In general, polishing at lower RPM produces lower staining resistance. The higher RPM speed produces excess heat, which reduces the lifetime of the polisher.

Ceramic Polishing used in this study are the latest materials available. They provide sufficient strength for the second molars in bruxers. These materials also minimize antagonist tooth structure wear. In addition, they provide sufficient stability to the occlusal area, which increases restorative options. These materials also have a homogeneous structure and have a higher color stability.
