Ceramic Polishing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi And Al Ain - What Are the Effects of Ceramic Polishing on Porcelain Surfaces?

 


Using a Ceramic Polishing machine to remove the burrs and other sharp edges on a workpiece can improve its aesthetics and make it more durable. However, the machine can have negative side effects as well. The following review will look at some of the negative effects of ceramic polishing, the types of polishers available, and how to determine whether the use of a polishing machine is appropriate.

The study evaluated the effects of five different porcelain polishing systems on the smoothness of porcelain surfaces. Among the systems, one was used to polish a white stone, another was used on metallic samples, and a third was used on glazed feldspathic porcelain.

 

Workpieces affected the performance of the polishers

Ceramic Polishing systems were evaluated on one surface of each specimen in each group. The effects of the polishing systems on the roughness of the surface were compared to the roughness after simulated resin clean-up. The surfaces were polished with the polishing systems in different speed and grit combinations. The results indicated that the systems used to polish the glazed porcelain were effective in achieving smoothness on the surfaces, although the system used on metallic samples was not effective.



For this study, a Komet polishing system was used, as well as rubbers #9680 047. The Komet polishing system was designed to polish three samples, while the rubbers were used for the remaining three. A ten-minute polishing cycle was used on each sample. The speed and grit combinations were chosen to be effective. The results showed that the grits and speed were not significantly different between the two systems, but the weight of the ceramic media used to polish the workpieces affected the performance of the polishers.

 

Evaluated on glazed and unglazed surfaces

In addition, the results indicated that the porcelain surfaces were more polished than the metallic samples. The polished surfaces of the white stone were similar to the glazed surfaces. The results also showed that the polishing process did not have a significant impact on the overall roughness of the surface.

The porcelain polishing system was classified as Identoflex, while the Ceramic Polishing system used for metallic samples was classified as Komet. However, no differences between the polishing systems were observed. The effects of the polishing systems on the roughness of the surface were also evaluated on glazed and unglazed surfaces. The results showed that the glazed surfaces were more polished than the metallic surfaces, which was attributed to the speed of the polishing system.

 

Surfaces were ultrasonically cleaned

The abrasives and surface preparations of the surface were evaluated using SEM. SEM photomicrographs were obtained using a Jeol JSM-5800LV scanning electron microscope (SEM). The characteristic topography of each surface preparation was examined using this instrument.

The results showed that the abrasives used for the surface preparations were not significantly different between the systems. The surface preparations were categorized as diamond bur, sandblasted with aluminum oxide, no surface treatment, and 10% hydrofluoric acid. The surfaces were ultrasonically cleaned with distilled water before the experiments began. The surface was dried using a blast of air for thirty seconds and then measured. The roughness of the surface was compared to the roughness of the glazed surface before the Ceramic Polishing process began.
